Does bad grammar make you (sic)?

SEATTLE - Do you cringe when you see a sign on the front of a house proclaiming that "The Johnson's" reside there? Does the phrase "Her and I" make you want to tear your hair out?

Fear not. You are not alone. There are others out there like you. They're members of the Society for the Promotion of Good Grammar (SPOGG), a Seattle-based organization created by writer/columnist Martha Brockenbrough.

Brockenbrough, a columnist with Microsoft's Encarta Web site, says she started SPOGG to make grammar fun and funny.

"It's not about talking as though you've got the posterior stick syndrome. It's about knowing what words mean and how to use them," she said.

SPOGG members submit examples of grammangling.

Open note to Evernote. Hanging by a thread.

View image detailDear Evernote:

I've become dependent on Web 2.0 and its fancy apps are managing more and more of my content and communication. Both business and personal.

I'm having a real battle with Twitter right now. Apparently Twitter has become so popular it can no longer handle the pressure. It's understandable and forgivable. It's only social networking.

However you, Evernote, manage much more important stuff for me like passwords and my spur of the moment inspirations. If you go down like the bluebird, I will totally come strangle you with a network cord.

So keep doing a good job and stay reliable! With an elephant as a mascot, it's tempting to go big. But don't grow too big too fast. K? We need you around for the long haul. (Pun intended) ;-)

How to mount a Small Business Server drive from Mac 10.4

I'm definitely no tech wiz and this isn't a tech blog, but I just figured out how to mount our file sharing drive to mac running 10.4. We have previously been an all Windows network and are currently transitioning to the Mac.

I have a G4 running 10.4 and as we all know, Samba doesn't work well in 10.4. The error is fixed in 10.5, but this G4 is too slow to run 10.5. Tried connecting via "Go to Server" with this address...smb://mynetworkaddress.local/volumename and I get the dreaded Error -36.

Well kids, it occured to me (after several weeks) to try the internal IP address. smb://192.168.X.X (the Xs are your numbers) and voila. I get a prompt to enter the server name, username and password, which I did and it mounted.

That's right. You got mounted.
